From what I've heard, there were a few students who've had their accounts cleaned out after using the ATM's outside of the Scotia Bank in Simpson Bay.

Sweet jesus. And the Scotia Bank ATM was always the most secure one.

probably a rumor. its probably a student that took out $20 and didn't get the money but was charged $20. happens, i was told by the bank that the atms communicate via satellite and the connection gets broken sometimes. i took out $200 once and never got it, had to fax my bank a statement saying i never got the cash and my account was credited aa week later.

scotia bank is a huge bank so their security has to be good. what has happened here in the states is that some computer geek adds a little blak box to the card reader at the atm then when you put in your card it scans it and they get your pin. then they clean out your account...but i doubt anyone on the firendly island has the motivation to actually plan that out...

Could be a non-local or newly arrived crook then, with the motivation. Probably makes a tempting target if that is the case, all the very filthy rich people that pass through St. Maarten.

hmm..

i went to that bank on the 16th and it was out of order. Maybe they shut it down as a result of something "fishy" going on....

they said it was two different students, both lost all of their money and were able to track it back to the common usage of that atm and now their money has been tracked in canada or something i believe, or to a canadian person maybe... anyways i am pretty sure it is legit, somebody with the sga, pres or something and the told our reps to let us know

It's True!

Just to let you know, Scotia Bank has admitted that there is a problem and that you should use the inside tellers instead of their ATM for a bit. My friend was hit by this as well (not a student). She had around $2000 taken out of her account. Scotia will be replacing it, but they warned her to not use the ATM for a bit. She said that when she went in to deal with it there were two other people in line in front of her with the same issue. Be careful!

Check this link out. It shows how some people do the ATM Skimming.
Tricky...
