    Clothes?

Hi I'll be starting in January and was just wondering what the dress code is like at school and for classes? AUC recommends we bring semi-formal wear for certain occasions but for classes and so forth what is recommended? Dress shirts or what? Thanks.

Bring a nice dress shirt, slacks and shoes for your white coat ceremony. But otherwise the dress code during class time is whatever's comfortable and decent (ie, no bikinis in class.. unless you're really hot).

Most people come in tshirts and jeans.

Most students, underneath their clothing, are naked anyway.

Why are you holding a tennis raquet? I thought hoops was the only availability.

That's a good question. Other countries have different cultures with different standards so I was curious what it is like in other places.

I particularly don't want to stand out because I've heard stories of people being ripped off just because locals assume "the American" has money.

Jewlery probably wouldn't be recommended. Am I right? Or am I just giving this issue too much thought?

You're putting too much thought into. St. Maarten is an heavily saturated with tourists. As long as you're not walking around with tons of bling bling, you should be fine.

As for jewelry though on campus, just use common sense depending where you are and what you're doing.
