interesting info
For comparison, the AMA website has some good information.
http://www.ama-assn.org/vapp/freida/.../0,,TR,00.html Residents: Average percent international medical graduates Internal Medicine: 46.9% Family Practice: 28.4% Obstetrics/Gyn: 18.2% Anesthesiology: 35.4% Surgery-General: 21.2% Surgery-Ortho: 1.7% Surgery-Thoracic: 25.5% Dermatology: 2.9% Urology: 4.7% Neurology: 42.3% etc. etc. blah blah blah I think it's obvious some specialties are extremely difficult for IMGs to enter. However, if you don't make it into one specialty there are ~48 others you can choose from. lots of good info on AMA website |

No Insurance is a gamble.
You can't count on putting all of your money into your home to protect you in case of a lawsuit. Only three states have 100% homestead protections. Florida, Texas, and I think, Wyoming. Even these states place limitations on homestead protection, and Florida is considering doing away with it altogether. In other states, you'd be able to keep something ridiculous, like $10,000 of equity in your home, in the event of a bankruptcy caused by a civil judgement against you. If you don't have insurance, you shouldn't practice. It's dangerous for you, and unfair for your patients.
