    Question Recommended Book

    Yo,

I am a first semester at AUC and I didn't find out until I got here that Lippincotts it a must book along with a few of the BRS books as well. I also wasted the $100+ buying the Biochem book that makes a nice paper weight.

So since I dont want that to happen again, what books do you guys recommend for the 2nd semester? anything like lippincotts that i can pick up from the states when i go home or order now so they are there when i get back. also which of the "required" books are actually worth getting?

I really am gettin my money's worth from the anatomy and histo textbooks but biochem im regreting buying so ya, to save me this trouble, can you guys jus let me know? thanks

Man, Lippincott is probably one of the best medical books in terms of being concise on what you need to know.

2nd semester.. hmm, well, the curriculum is different back from my days, but if anything, get Guyton for Physiology. Dr. B will tell you not to get it, too many errors, etc etc.. but he seems to pull out all his slides from that and doesn't give you copies of them.

Def. get Guyton for physio. The Berne and Levy book for physio is only so-so, in my opinion.

Get the recommended book for immuno. It's good and goes hand in hand with most of the immuno lectures. Also get the histo books...find Histo Time CD from someone. That really helps, too.

You don't need any genetics books...waste of time to read them.

The notes are good enough for immuno in my opinion, provided you go to lecture as well.

Are they still requiring you to buy the EM book for histo? That book's gold.

I'm sorry, i'm trying to take notes here on which books I'll need. When you guys say Lippincott are u refering to the langman's med embryology book? Because i see here that he has authored more than one book... Also SOE, whats that EM book you are talking about?

We're referring to Lippincott's biochemistry. I'm referring to Cell and Tissue Ultrastructure by Cross. Those images showed up on my shelf exams.

Agreed. And for future reference, you don't need your med psych books either. Mine is still in its original plastic wrapping.

I would by the Oldest Edition of Guyton for the Physio I class (like one you might find in your local salvation army). I used Berne and Levy a bit, but they are available from the library. I also like the BRS for physiology (it is nice to provide organization and structure to certain sections of Physio II) as well as a reference for Physio I. I do not know how they are changing the genetics program, but if Big Mac is teaching genetics, I would also get the latest edition of that book as well (I used it "Emery's" quite a bit for genetics).
