hey please dont take that kitten to the shelter, they will kill the heck out of him in a minute, if its a shelter at all ....... free the little guy if nobody will take him, or make him the official AUC maskot and we can all take turns caring for him, I'll start !!!! I just need someone to take him off my hands when I fail straight out of this place.

First off, the kitten is now sitting happily in her new home, on my lap.

Secondly, I understand your intentions are good, but your post is very naive. Releasing an animal into the wild here is a terrible idea. The animal is at risk of starvation, disease, being killed by a car or wild dog. The worst part is that putting an unspayed cat outside is tremendously irreponsible as it obviously only compounds the problem.

There are some excellent organisations here that look out for animal welfare. The vet I took the kitten to was AWESOME. They do animal rescue and try to adopt out all the animals in their care. These animals are fixed, checked for diseases, and vaccinated. Should the animal sadly have to be euthanised, it is still a far more humane option than leaving them outside. The kitten I got was living outdoors, and at 8-9 weeks, weighs just over 1 pound (she's skin and bones) and has hookworm. Thankfully she tested negative for FIV and FLV, but that was luck.

BTW, the cost to adopt a pet from the aforementioned shelter is very reasonable (I think ~60 bucks?) and is obviously very rewarding.

Here's the vet info for any who need it or want to inquire about adopting:

    Christopher DeWitt, DVM
    Teresa Kraska-DeWitt, DVM

    Union Road, Cole Bay
    St. Maarten, NA

I totally agree. There are too many students who release pets into the "wild" not realizing their pets are not going to get adopted or run free through some meadow of happiness. The vets work hard to make sure animals get adopted. Congratuations on your new pet.

It was a sad day a few months ago when they tore down my favorite place for Chinese food. They are building a structure there, and rumor has it, it will become a Subway. That will be nice to have food next to campus.

I wish the Chinese people were never deported. I am sure they could do a good job with subway. Or even better, have a fusion subway/sichuan. Chinese food on a sub or in a wrap.

Dude youve got to be kidding me. Calling me naive and insulting me on this wonderful public website, when it is YOU that is a fool. No crap the cat wouldnt have a wonderful life, but its still a life and it still must be respected. I despise people like you. Think your always doing good, when your really cruel due to your low IQ. They are a population, just like us trying to survive, they dont hurt people or bother people and they have every right to overpopulate, just like us and have kittens and ballsacks just like us, and starve just like most of the world's poor. If you put a cat in the wild that is adapted to humans, it will find friendly houses to visit for food, and so on. My Mom just adopted a cat this way. The only problem is one day it goes to a house with someone like you and gets taken to the shelter, and MURDERED. YES MURDERED. Its F'ed up. Shelters suck. No they are NOT good. The cat would rather NOT have its shots. The cat would rather NOT have its balls cut off. Your a freaking idiot. I hate your guts. Responsible? OMG dude, when is murder the responsible thing to do? Youve gotta be joking right? Your kidding right? "Its our duty as good citizens to capture animals and murder them." I hate sassy people who just dont like to look at stray animals so they think its animal genocide day behind the illusions of wonderful shelters. They are animals for God sakes. They have the tools to survive in the wild. They EVOLVED ON THIS PLANET. Let them live. Heres a situation for you. Lets say a man walks up to you and says to you. You have two choices I can shoot you in the head between the eyes or I can shoot you in the chest, but one of the two has to happen. Of course you take option 2. It might not be a wonderful option, you might be fighting and hanging on for your life, but its a better option than dead. "no matter how bad your day is up here, it is still better than a day down there." And guess what? Animals and all life on earth has the same universal drive to survive and live. Yes thats right I am saying that I beleive stray animals have every right to overpopulate and go through trash, and fight each other. Its a bad life, but still a life and humans need to respect there life. Feel sorry for the strays so lets murder them. Thats disgusting. It makes me vomit. The shelters are overflown here, they kill strays on a daily basis. Any human being who takes a perfectly healthy animal and sticks a needle in it, ending its life, is a worthless piece of crap. If I could I would gather all of these people up, put them in a cage and say,"sorry human nature has selected against your kind and we no longer want you in the gene pool because your occupation and concept of life on earth sucks. But you got two weeks for a dog or cat to come in here, and based on if your cute or not, adopt you." Then I would bring in a different cat everyday and just have it stare at them for an few minutes, then say to them. "Sorry guys I dont think he likes you, hes not saying anything." Why cant you be a man and drown it in your bathtub? Save it the car ride. Go ahead and keep petting it. Make it think your its friend right before it goes to the shelter.
