First off, the kitten is now sitting happily in her new home, on my lap.
Secondly, I understand your intentions are good, but your post is very naive. Releasing an animal into the wild here is a terrible idea. The animal is at risk of starvation, disease, being killed by a car or wild dog. The worst part is that putting an unspayed cat outside is tremendously irreponsible as it obviously only compounds the problem.
There are some excellent organisations here that look out for animal welfare. The vet I took the kitten to was AWESOME. They do animal rescue and try to adopt out all the animals in their care. These animals are fixed, checked for diseases, and vaccinated. Should the animal sadly have to be euthanised, it is still a far more human option than leaving them outside. The kitten I got was living outdoors, and at 8-9 weeks, weighs just over 1 pound (she's skin and bones) and has hookworm. Thankfully she tested negative for FIV and FLV, but that was luck.
BTW, the cost to adopt a pet from the aforementioned shelter is very reasonable (I think ~60 bucks?) and is obviously very rewarding.
Here's the vet info for any who need it or want to inquire about adopting:
