Each school has strength and weakness. But at the end, it is up to each student to get the best out of this game regardless the schools. The posting like this with "inferior" doesnt help anyone but only lower the effectiveness of this forum as objective source of information.

Ross and AUC both are well established med schools. It is matter of personal decision to opt one over the other. Once you have done so, it is far wise to stick to your decision and do your best while not bashing others decision by using word like inferior.

Good luck

the real difference

When I applied to AUC, I did so because they had a flier on the wall at my university. It was teh only flier If Ross had had a flier, today I would be a Ross forum moderator.
That's how seriously I investigated schools. Of course this was the stone age, when we watched movies in a VCR and the Intel Celeron processor was still a dream and the internet was just being invented by Al Gore

The real difference between Ross and AUC students became apparent to me in the San Juan airport at semester breaks.
The ross students were all from Jersey, so they wore dress shoes, no socks, jean shorts and lots of gold chains.
Many AUC students were from California and the South, so wore regular clothes.

This was the only difference as I saw it. This is probably still the only difference.

So now I tell people, if you own more than 3 gold chains and 1 or more large medallions for your chain, apply to Ross. IF you are a woman with feathered hair, or if the height of your hair exceeds 8 inches, then apply to Ross

If somebody says mahalo, and you understand them : head for St Martin .
If somebody says "Fixin to leave" and you reply, where ya'll goin?--head to AUC

If you like fine art ---you must go to AUC. there is quite a collection from the Emperor **** Dynasty 8)

These post's about one school vs. another are always so interesting for me to read.

I wonder what ever happened to RossLoss? I'm sure he could "stir the beans" a bit.

Not postcards

I would never have chosen a school based on postcards. It is too important a decision for that. It just goes to show that FLK has some problems.

Luckily for me there were both Ross and AUC post cards on the walls at my school. So I sent away for both. When I got the brochures, AUC had a nice one printed on glossy paper with a pretty girl on the from looking at a test tube while an obviously well educated and interested professor looked on to make sure she was learining what she needed to pass the boards. Ross sent me a photocopy of what may have been a nice brochure. The pictures were obscured by the photocopy process, so I couldn't tell a thing about how interested the professors looked. So, unlike FLK I think it is important to chose a school based on a brochure. If Ross had sent me a brochure resembling the Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue that was not released becasue of nudity, I would also be a Ross moderator.

Interesting observation about the number of gold chains on Ross folks. Also, the only guy I ever saw wear a muscle shirt under his short white coat while on call on a weekend went to Ross. I have noted that, in general, Ross students are VERY competitive. Some would say "cut-throat". It used to be worse. When I was a basic science student, we had to do presentations at the end of the medicine rotation. We had 6 AUC and 6 Ross students. The best presentation got picked to be presented in front of the whole department at noon conference. One young lady from Ross deleted many of her fellow students presentations so she could get picked by default. The environment has changed, but you can still detect a bit of it just from the posts. Things like the above, and you will see lots of posts by people saying things like "Ross and SGU are the only schools you should consider." They can't leave SGU out because it has such a solid reputation. Of course, these are basic science students and don't know any better. G

these posts are so convincing, sometimes I think I should reapply to medical school and go to Ross but then I remember I am already a licensed physician with a goofy AUC diploma which I guess must be worthless...

anyway, what do I know. I based my career decision on a post card and a one way ticket to Montserrat ( couldn't afford a round trip )

Figured if I failed out, I'd default on my loans and become a bartender in paradise ( DAMNIT, I regret that I didn't flunk every day ! )

I'd have a sun tan and be serving druinks to chics in thongs today. What was I thinking?

George would look.... interesting... (I was going to say cute, but then thought twice...) in a thong.

Hmmm, I wonder if FLK would still be in Montserrat (= heaven) or if he would have bailed for the less-than-heavenly SXM and thongs...

In general...

well... you know...from students who had no choices before medical school,.......we're all better off from Ross, AUC and SGU. There are plenty of NA graduates that would take more than a few of our schools residencies with pleasure. Congrats to the AUC grads!.... I haven't seen new residencies posted in a while so I thought I'd chuck this in.
