Do you guys feel that benchmarks are somewhat a disservice to some students and future physicians and patients?

After today's discussion over the written part of the test, I felt like it has the potential to be catastrophic. But then again, I'm just a first semester so maybe the real-world is a lot different. But when people start griping over REALLY fair questions that they, "weren't in the benchmarks!!!" or "weren't in the lecture!!!" I've really begun to wonder.

There's not doubt one can pass the class, and pass with a fair grade if one just studies the lab manual and benchmarks.. but I wonder if they're asked to assimilate information that is not laid out by the professors? "We were never told what the lub, dubs meant!" or "what's a patent probe?" Either one being addressed explicitly by the "Recommended" reading meaning anything outside of Netter and Benchmarks.

Interesting the same problem keeps arising. Do you think professors get insulted if the class doesn't make a ~70% Avg? Maybe its something Im not seeing yet, but I know most of us want to do well here. We would like to Honor tests and learn all we can, Then crush the STEP 1 and be the best Dr.'s we can be out there. It just seems counter productive to me.

I'll quit fussing about the recent tests I promise.... until the next one.

Personally, I'd rather CRUSH the Step 1 rather than Honoring my courses.

Why not do both, I would expect nothing less of our new World Dictator.

P.S. I voted for you.

It's too hard to honor classes.. I swear, by making the final worth exactly as much as midterms for each class.. I literally go in there, write my name answer C and run for the airport.

When I do not do as well as I want to do on the exam, I look to those who did better than me and see what I do better for the next exam. At least I am getting better at jumping through flaming hoops. I guess if I am able to jump through the USMLE hoop well enough, they might make me a doctor. Hopefully I do not pass gas while jumping.
