it's not routine. we had 1 saba and 1 sgu tranfer along with 3 US med student transfers when i was in **. just follow the cardinal rule of transfering, MOST people that do are in academic problems so they have to attend a school that will accept them. typically these are newer smaller schools.
this is also cyclical and follows a flavor of the month deal. during my first few semesters it was spartan, then St chris, and currently SMU seems to be where people are flocking
so people usually trade down not sideways, just like the US med students with issues come to auc, ross, then the auc'ers and rossies with issues attend other schools
