Mark Twain said: there are three kinds of lies: Lies, damned lies and statistics.

The average passing score for an AUA student being around 87% makes sense. You have to take into account that a few people were off the chart.. 260+ in their three digit score.

You also have to take into account that no one really has a 100% accurate answer because you were not required to post a failing score until almost two years ago so they really don't have the data from the initial studens.

Step 1 can only be taken 3 times per calendar year so there's no way to tell which attempt the passing score people finally reported to the school is actually tied to. What this means is that until the school changed the policy where you sign a waiver in 5th semester to have your score (pssing or failing) posted they had no way of knowing which attempt was being submitted for clinicals.

The one current statistic the school has is pretty simple. A student with a B average has a 50% chance of passing Step 1 on the first attempt. Not saying that others don't have the same chance but there are a few people at the new york office who are really into stats and the only correlation they could find that explained a first time pass was G.P.A. That revelation annoyed almost everyone in the room.

The school's first time pass rate is a little over 50%.. as of last year. It may have changed bt to go from a little over 50% to 87% is pretty unbelievable. The third time pass rate is only around 70%.

AUA is a relatively new school. Having a stonger curriculum/classes and so on is going to take time.

Until it's time to take the boards..... study like a mad person!!!

i think now with the school requiring students to have minimum scores on the shelf exams as well as pass the comp before being certified to take the step 1 will increase the scores....or at least i'm hoping so.

Congrats guys it is good to see people passing the exams. I personally think that revamping and designing our fifth semester would have the biggest impact on our step 1 pass rate. Most students can attest to the fact that they felt like fifth semester impeded their studying for Step rather than helping it. I personally think we studying have a proven review program for fifth semester (eg. Kaplan "the only one I trust). At one particular school I know they used to bring kaplan to the school and have the professor for that subject present too so students can ask both to verify plus the professor gets a refresher and what to focus his lectures on.

AUA is young and grewing, I think our weakest starts in fifth and extended into the clinical semester; unfortunately these for the areas where student want to make the most impact and need the right support in place.

To my fellow school mate what I do for each rotation is the check out what the ivy league school requirements are and what is their approach and I try to stimulate it. I do this because we can make excused but at the end of the day the administration have a job and we are the one who need one. You have worked hard just continue to do so. Plus it is much easier than searching journals for articles.

Congrats again
