All the required text books are available at the school's bookstore. But the school charges 12 dollars shipping per book, so you might want to check amazon.com/bn.com for better deals. Did the school send you a copy of the booklist? If not, PM me and I can send it to you.

    Be safe!

To make sure you have your books do as Sree suggested and get them from Amazon. You will have to carry books down with you, but you'll save money and be sure to have them when classes start.

    Amazon.com

Amazon.com is a great place to buy your books. They usually have new and used books from other sellers that cost less than the price Amazon is selling them for. They are the exact same books. If you want brand new books, you can usually find them from another seller but you have to be careful because sometimes they over-price them. If you don't mind having used books, you can get them really cheap. It lists the condition of the book in the description so you can make sure you get one that isn't highlighted or written in, or whatever your specifications are. Sometimes they sell previous editions so just make sure you are buying the correct one. And most of the products you get directly from Amazon qualify for free shipping. Most medical school bookstores sell the books for the same price that you find them for online, but it is possible to save a lot of money the other way. You shouldn't have to worry about your suitcases weighing too much because if you fly with American Airlines, you can take 2 70-lb suitcases, a laptop, and another carry-on.

You need to get all the first semester books that are marked Required.

In second semester, you don't need
    • Neuroanatomy An Atlas of Structures, Sections and Systems with CD-ROM 5th Ed. / Haines - Required

In third semester, you don't need
    • Basic Histopathology / Milikowski - Required
    • Harrison's Principals of Internal Medicine 16th Ed. / Harrison - Required
    • Clinical Laboratory Pearl / Jones - Required
I don't know anything about the fourth semester books.

    Books

Obviously, the ones that say they are required, you should have. The 3 that Sree listed for 3rd semester that he said you do not need, you should have. The Basic Histopathology book by Milikowski is good. We had to use it when I was in 3rd semester, and it will help with preparing for the USMLE. Clinical Laboratory Pearls or one similar to it will help you greatly in 5th semester and in clinicals, not to mention in 4th semester when you get to that section of path. And Harrison's...you NEED it! If you don't have it while you're on the island, you better buy it when you get back to the US. It is a huge book and it seems intimidating at first, but it is THE book for Internal Medicine. Believe me, I'm doing my IM rotation right now, and I had to use it the first week to prepare for a presentation. My physician told us the first day of our rotation that we needed Harrison's.

Do yourselves a favor and buy the books now and use them now. The more work you put in while you are on the island, the less you will be struggling to cover before the USMLE. Not only is this medical school, but it is the start to the rest of your life. It's like a job - the more you work, the more you get paid, except here the more you work, the better grades and board scores you get.
