    Transferring to AUA ??

Hey Guys! I'm currently a 4th semester student at a foreign medical school in Mexico. However I am really adamant about getting out of here as soon as possible. If anyone has transferred to AUA can they please share their experiences with me so i can have an idea of what all i need to do. I tried contacting the AUA office in NY several times, but all i got was their answer machine. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

Hey, first off you need to make sure that your school is on the California approval list at the following site
Welcome to the Medical Board of California - Medical Schools Recognized by the Medical Board of California

If it is you are eligible for a transfer but it would depend on your grades at your old school as well as recommendation letters from professors at your old school. You will need two letters of recommendation from your med school and if you are applying for Feb '13 or later, you will need to submit your MCAT score as well. With the new changes in the curriculum, I'm not sure how they would place you in. My guess would be you either start from the beginning or possibly third semester, but again, this is just a guess and would depend on the curriculum in your current school and how it meshes with AUA's. Best of luck

Hey! Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, my school is approved and accredited in all 50 states. The school is UAG. yeah Feb 13' would be ideal for me. However I was under the impression that if i completed all 4 semesters here at UAG they would just have me start from 5th at AUA. Doing the usmle review then starting clinicals from week 15-20. But i guess this is something i'll have to clear with the AUA admin over the phone.

My bad, you are right, they would have you start from fifth. I misunderstood and though you wanted to transfer into fourth semester. If you have successfully completed all four semesters at UAG then they would most likely place you into fifth. Good luck

How long has UAG been approved by all 50 states? I was not aware that they were?

Also, do you mind sharing why you want to leave your current school?

Yes, the school is approved in all 50 states including the big ones CA and TX. For how long? that i honestly do not know, but i am guessing it has been a good while.I think the better question to ask here would be 1st how and then why? I do mind sharing my reasons of why i'd like to transfer. mainly for the reason that i don't want to be the person who get's on here, bad mouths the school and suddenly becomes the "School Basher" and also from what i have read and heard, some former students were threatened with being kicked out or have been kicked out of the school for posting about their complaints and thoughts about the institution on these forums. You can get a pretty thorough and accurate answer to your question by doing a search in the forum on the school. but to give you a lil synopsis 1) first 2 years of basic sciences are a joke. 2) administration and professors are rude, incompetent, unproffesional, and in no way do they prepare or come close to preparing you for step 1. 3) Facilities are downright abysmal. from something simple as having soap in the bathrooms to the broken seats in the classrooms. take this and correlate it with an 11K tuition per semester. oh and class sizes range from about 90-200 depending on the semester of the incoming class. have fun!
