Thread: Any issues with administration?

I have been accepted into Feb and I had an awesome admissions person and great interviewer. However, my issue seems to be with the new student coordinators. I was assigned one and she was hard to reach, by either email or phone. Then I got an email today saying my file was missing items and needed to be taken care of or risk being wait-listed for August. It turns out my coordinator had changed and I had no idea. So I called her and had to leave a vm. She called me back and to my chagrin, was very abrupt and rude to me. I am wondering if anyone else has had trouble. I am concerned with the attitude I got today and that this will be the norm for the future. We all spend alot of money and take a great chance by going to Caribbean schools and I am worried about this now.

I've had a similar experience... I had sent in all my documents in November. I left a voicemail, sent an email, left my name and number with the receptionist, and have been calling every week. I never was able to reach the coordinator or get a reply. I understand they're busy with all the new students but I think they could find 2 mins in the past month. I got a similar email today saying I need my documents in by the end of the month or risk being bumped to the fall 2012 semester. I was pretty frustrated at this point so I started calling every 30 mins until I reached the coordinator. When I finally reached her I was very polite, and found out I was good for the feb 2012. However the attitude I got was unprofessional. The admissions person and interviewer were awesome. It feels like once AUA got my deposit checks they didn't need to be nice anymore. I really hope this is not a sign of what's to come.

i got the, "get your butt in gear" email yesterday.

did you guys get an actual welcome packet in the mail with all of the forms we have to fill out, like housing, visa, immunizations, etc.?

Yes got it in the mail and got a pdf copy in an email.

Every student that has been accepted for Feb 2012 got the "urgent" email.. Don't worry, they aren't necessarily saying that you are missing something..I got it, and I've had everything complete for a long time.

I will be in Med 5 in January and this has been the story of AUA admin ever since its door got opened. Some of them have absolutely no accountability and tact. They tend to get defensive and short. However, you have some really outstanding personnel that work in both the NY office and in Antigua. Also some students have no clue how to talk to people and do talk with a sense of entitlement. So, it goes both ways.
Having said all of that. You should not be worried about the administration communication skills in making a decision to come to this school or not. Just know that you will be asked for the same piece of information several times over. Thats the fact. things happen, dont get frustrated just make several copies and give them what they ask. As long as its not for new tuition or fees. Its a good school just come here ready to study hard and achieve your goals.

Remember, when dealing with the staff / administration, a 'please' and a 'thank-you' go a long way. A 'drop what you're doing and take care of my needs now' doesn't.

I agree, administration needs to have better tact, class, etc. I was very nice to the staff. Always use "please and thank you" and still couldn't receive any respect in return.

Ok so the next time I talked to my coordinator, she was nicer. But be careful when you get your tuition bills! I was double charged for many things and charged for items that I should not have been. I am beyond frustrated at this point. I was originally charged for lower cost housing but then assigned higher housing and am told I cannot have the lower cost housing that I wanted. I am really hoping that I made the right decision in school choices as I picked this one over a different one.

Thanks for letting me vent! My friends that are at AUA love it so I am hoping that all of this is just minor growing/starting pains and that it will be smoother sailing once get going.
