Thread: How to prepare for Comprehensive Shelf Exam

Hi everyone:

Any advice from those students that already took Comprehensive Shelf Exam on how to prepare for this exam and pass it. Please be specific on what books to study( For example First Aid, etc,,,,) , or what Q-banks to do (like USMLE WORLD, Kaplan q-bank, etc,,,,)?

I think I am going to do DIT videos and USMLEWorld questions!

same as you'd prepare for the step...FA + UW

I used Kaplan Videos for step 1 and FA

I'm in med 1 right now, when should i start studying for the comp?

Everything you're learning is for the comp...you can start by getting a 4.0.

Make sure you score high on your shelfs. Those are the kind of q's the Comp is comprised of. That means emphasize HY topics (via First Aid, etc) as well as having a very solid foundation of everything else.

Wait...does AUA have shelfs anymore?

They do.. im asking because last semester only 25 kids out of 120 passed the comp exam.. the school does give that much time to study for the exam so i just want to know when i should start

That's insane

well I can only tell you what I did to pass the comp the first try.

I reviewed sections in First Aid was stressed about and did some review questions to get myself in game mode. But that was all within 2 days before.

Through basic sci, I did just what I wrote above. Study well and study for the shelf...not just for the block that's coming up.
