Thread: Is AUA a solid school?

I'm looking to research the school, and was not sure where to come.

I am interested in transferring into their 5th semester program because I am not happy with my schools clinicals.


I have the info on the 5th semester from the school, but I was hoping to get some student perspective.

Is the school stable and accredited? I have heard of other schools losing thier accredidation and things of that nature. I was wondering if there were any big problems with this school, and if I should not consider it.

Also, I heard conflicting reports if there is Kaplan or other Step 1 prep at this school. Can someone confirm.


Also, how are clincials in this school? Are their sites were I can do all of them at once? Is there a long wait? Are they all/mostly green?

Answers to everyone one of these question are already available except maybe one. So i will only answer that question. There is a review if you get fifth semester at the Atlanta site. Close to half your time there is spent reviewing for step 1.

I would highly suggest researching the post. From your questions its indicative that you have researched close to zero on previous threads regarding the clinical situation which is discussed in quite some detail.

Is ATL the only place with a review? The person I was talking to on the phone said he thinks the school offers a Kaplan review, another person told me there is no review, you just have to study in your own. He also said NC had a long wait so I figured something good might be there.

One person was saying you have to wait 5 months to get your first clinical rotation. Another person said he only had to wait a few weeks the entire first year. Both are pretty different, I was hoping someone could give me a little more clarity.

There is conflicting info because some of the people that passed through the bottle neck are not having the problem. The situation is at its highest now and perhaps will go higher or improve. On average everyone I have talked to is waiting at least 3 months after getting there grades.

Is there anyone on this forum that has written the step (Say since September) gotten a rotation in less than 3 months?

I just read on the clinical forums that someone just got scheduled for a rotation in Sept...9 months from now. Is that for real? That is insane!

Someone else said 7-9 months, and you have to be willing to go anywhere, and not even green rotations...

the reason you read conflicting info is that students who got their step1 scores back before october got their rotation scheduled in less than 3 months. After october, the wait time increased and as of January it is 7-9 months.

yes, this is true if you're willing to go anywhere and not even greenbook certified...

i can't even imagine anyone after January to be picky for those.

Stick with ACGME Rotations only !!!
worth the wait if you have to, or switch to another medical school that will accept transfer credits, and allow you for better rotations ! You have to be selfish and competitive, it is your future, and you can't afford to ruin it. There are plenty of programs that will accept 5th trimester MD students, with solid track record of ACGME rotations, most in one state, so you don't have to move that much !!!

Wow. 7-9 months seems almost unbearable...so much time. Are there any solutions on the horizon? I would hope so, I still can't believe it's that long.

The Solution as i see it are 2 possible ways.

1. School recruits more hospitals for clinical spots.

2. School significantly lowers the number of incoming students to lessen the ratio of student / clinical spot.


i know the school is trying very hard to secure spots, but unfortunately, its been months and still no significant progress has been made.
