    Application question

    Hello everyone,
As a student (about to enter fourth year this September) with all pre-requisites completed, I would like to know whether or not it would be a good idea to apply for the January 09 sumester without completing my fourth year (I have completed 96/120 credits). I am positive that medicine is the route I would like to take, and do not see what role my undergraduate degree could play in helping me in the future. Therefore, I would like to get some advice/opinions of students currently attending AUA on my situation.
Thanks so much for your time!

I did a blue book Surgery core at Penninsula. When I sent an e-mail to New York State board explaining to them that I am an AUA graduate and whether doing a blue book core is going to affect my subsequent eligibility for licensure, the answer was that it would not. Can someone clarify this, b/c me and Sree are getting different responces on this (of course I am not sure where Sree obtained his info).

Greenbook and Bluebook refer to which agency is accrediting hospitals for Clinical Rotations:

Greenbook - Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)

Bluebook - American Osteopathic Association (AOA)

The significance for med students is that certain states require a certain amount of or certain types of Rotations be completed in Greenbook Hospitals (ACGME accredited).

For Mass you should find the State licensing agency, look at their website and give them a call. They will be the best source of Mass licensing requirements.

that is an interesting question ! i'd like to know as well!

am i correct in understanding that if we do all the greenbook cores and elective, then it is possible to stand before the medical board of california and plead our case? since aua is not accredited by california.

I am from NC and if tht state is not on the list, does that mean it doesn't matter if you do greenbook or bluebook rotations?

From the Nc state medical board website. (I'm from NC too)
The Board collects and verifies the credentials of physicians applying for licenses in North Carolina. Except for graduates of foreign medical schools, applicants must have graduated from a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and have successfully completed at least one year of accredited graduate training. They must also have passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or its equivalent. Those who currently hold a license in another state may apply for licensure by endorsement. That is, should they meet all other requirements for licensure in North Carolina, the examination they took to obtain their earlier license may be accepted (or endorsed) in North Carolina. Physicians who are graduates of schools that are not accredited by the LCME or the AOA (foreign medical schools) must have been individually certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, have successfully completed at least three years of accredited graduate medical training, and have passed the USMLE or its equivalent. Applicants for a medical license may be interviewed in person by the Board or one of its members. Each must provide a recent photograph certified by his or her medical school to prevent imposture. Background and credentials are carefully checked through medical schools, graduate training programs, national data systems, and other state medical boards. Should an applicant not have been formally tested within the past 10 years, he or she will usually be required to pass a special examination or show an acceptable continuing medical education record prior to licensure. Following original licensure, each physician is required to register with the Board every year within thirty days of his/her birthday.

Hi guys i had a question regarding the states which require clinical core rotation to be greenbook.. especially about Newyork..does this problem with licensure is it for residency temporary license or for practicing physician license after the residency ..iam confused
    Post from sree:
    States with weird rules
    1. Kansas
‐Medical school has to be in existence for 15 years before licensure is granted.
‐This rule does not apply to residency applicants.
    2. New Jersey
‐At least four weeks of each core rotation has to be Greenbook.
‐No clinical rotations possible in state for foreign schools except SGU and Ross.
-You have to sign and notorize a form saying that you completed premedical requirements and state where you completed them. But it doesn't look like they check to see if you actually did or not.
    3. New York
    ‐60 credits of college required
‐Only the core rotations done within New York State have to be Greenbook.
‐Letter of Eligibility required before participating in clinical rotations
‐Special permission from the board required before participating in away electives.
‐Only 12 weeks of away electives permitted – all must be Greenbook
