It's Official

It's official, we have New York as another 5th semester site. The location is Richmond Hospital at Staten island. On a side note, apparently we have lost baltimore, can anyone confirm this

We definitely do have 24 spots at Richmond Hospital in Staten Island for 5th semester. I made the official announcement in class today. As for Baltimore, it may or may not be up to AUA's standards because they are not allowing students to have a hands on approach. We will know for sure in the next two weeks if AUA is dropping Baltimore or not. AUA has also acquired a pilot 5th semester site in San Juan.

the reason behind baltimore potentially being lost is i guess the hospital passed something that medical students are not allowed to touch the patients because of insurance liabilities. from what Dr. B said, the school thinks this is counter-productive and not a good learning environment if you can't have hands on training. i agree with this, it's a shame to potentially lose it though.

Are we getting an affilaition witH RGH?

There were some rumbling that AUA was working on something there about a year ago. Nothing ever seemed to come of it. It would be great if we got RGH, good hospital affiliated with U of Rochester . Last I knew only Saba, Ross, and AUC rotated thru RGH.

well our provost, Dr. S used to teach there and our neuro proff Dr. G got his phd at Rochester so he has connections. he announced in class that when we get to clinicals, it is possible to do a neuro away elective there. i'm hoping they get an official affiliation sometime before i hit clinicals. it's a great hospital and it's not too far from home.
