Do you have to have a cosigner for that? My parents said they won't cosign anything. I really want to go to AUA.

Yea, 0 is far away from 675. :-)
Guess I'm lucky to have great parents! My brother just graduated (school teacher) so now my dad only has to pay for me, not both of us.

well how far away are you from starting? if you have some time right now, open up a credit card and start using it. most credit cards have a 0% APR for the first year so if you start using it for things and paying it off every month, you'll develop some credit and won't be charged for any interest. that's how i started to build my credit but that was back in my freshman year of undergrad.

if that's not an option, you need a cosigner. i think your parents should be more understanding about it and be willing to help you out. if not, try relatives, friends of the family - anyone. if you're really serious about going to medical school, go out there and find yourself a cosigner. otherwise, i'm not sure what else to tell you.

Yes..check your credit score now..and see how far you have to go..honestly if you dont have any credit..i dont think you'll be able to build your score up to the necessary 675 in only a few months. I was approved on my own, but i had a mortgage, car payments, utility payments, etc..Besides having all that, you need to have time too. Credit companies base your scores not only on your credit/debt ratio, but if you've paid your bills on time for the past 5 years. If you're just now opening an account, it's not going to go "far" for your credit score. That doesn't mean you shouldn't open one now..I think it's important for young people to build credit..and the first step is usually a credit card..followed by a car payment..then a house. But as DOCP said, ask around..it can be anyone..a boyfriend, close friend, roomate, brother/sister. Just someone with a better/more estabilished credit score than you

So if we are able to get a cosigner, how does it work? Does it only pay for tuition, or everything including housing/books?
