You have shown a definite turn around with your post bac grades. Be able to explain what happened in undergrad if you get an interview.

Hey everyone. Irish, I spoke to the financial aide office yesterday and heard that we wouldn't get official approval until the first week of April. I was also re-assured as I have been in the past that if you're pre-approved and officially registered at the school it shouldn't be a problem.

The interesting part is that you actually won't get your money until the new student orientation (ie; when you're already on the island!). You get an authorization email that you have to sign and fax back to them that allows them to hold onto your loan before they disperse to you. You're only allowed to request two semesters at a time and they don't give you the second semester until you've completed the first. Also, they deduct the money from the loan that will cover your student housing and tuition and then cut you a check for the semester's remaining balance at the new student orientation.

Suposibly representatives from the local banks will be there to guide us on opening a new account with local access. You then deposit the remaining balance into your new account for you to be able to pull out through out the semester as you need it.

Many places on the island also take your standard credit cards too.

NY, I agree with the others and think you should go for it! Just be brutally honest during your interview as to why the grades were low in undergrad. The fact that you've been able to turn it around will look good (talk about how you've matured, had some clinical experience, etc). you should be fine. Don't worry about the MCAT score either, they don't require it as of yet. I took the MCAT as well but it never even came up, my interview mostly revolved around my experiences working in healthcare.

newblood, good luck! It can take a couple weeks sometime. Hang in there and let us know!

Hey guys, looking forward to joining you in May. I'm coming from IL. I'm still trying to sort out the whole loan situation with medinvest. I'm a deferral from the Jan class so I have to come up with money for a plane ticket and housing deposit asap.. There goes my tax return sigh...

I'm so excited to start, I could careless where I live as long as there is a gym close to get rid of the academic and island stress.

If anyone was curious about deferring until the following semester it was rather easy. I just discussed the situation with my advisor and got approval from D (apparently I can't use his entire name hah) DW who is the VP of Enrollment Management. Of course the deferral was only approved assuming I got the $500 deposit 10 days within you receive your acceptance email.

cya on the Island soon! Almost 2 months away..

(can't use names/post personal info, thx -sc)
