hey gaspas, my wife and I rented a car for the first couple of days down here from Hertz. It was expensive but allowed us the freedom to explore a bit which made it worth it. I got a few numbers from current students of guys that lease cars to students but I haven't called them yet. I only took a cab once from the airport back to our hotel after I turned the car back in. It was a flat rate established at the airport with no real hassels (we're from Boston and used to cabbies doing circles running up a meter).

I spoke with some of the students using the University transport and they claim that it's pretty reliable. I would probably lean towards that at least for the first semester but won't since I don't want my wife to feel trapped in the apartment. We should be getting some more advice regarding transportation at orientation.

Anyone heard back on their AUA loan yet? I still haven't got an email as of today.

Thanks. If you don't mind could I get some of those number of people leasing/renting cars (PM me). It seems that is a better option than buying some clunker from another student. I was going to do the same, use school transport temporarily.

Still no word on the AUA loan.

scholarship awarded to me and confirmed (veteren's scholarship - I knew the military would pay off one day $$)... now let's keep up a 3.0 to hold on to it. The fun is about to begin!

embru, many congrats man. Semper Fi all the way and well deserved I'm sure.

oose, my wife and I will be in Amor Villa III. We checked it out and it's pretty nice. No real beaches within walking distance but tons within a short drive so it's no big deal at all.

So far so good with the food! Lots of chicken here but we also had a good burger yesterday on the beach. The supermarket near the school has just about everything you would expect to find in a US grocery store. We made some cheat-sheet cards to keep in our wallets to help us convert US dollars to EC and that has helped. Before we did that we over spent on a few things looking back on it! It's just a matter of getting used to it. The bar and grill 'The Beach' (which the students have mentioned) is pretty good. Nice menu and on the same beach as Sandals, which is nice. You'll see.
