the apartments in amor are nicer, but the resort across the street (blue waters) banned AUA students from using the beach, so you'd have to walk 10 minutes down the road to get to the next one.
barrymore, on the other hand, is more of a hotel type deal than an apartment complex, but i'm about 10 feet from the ocean. we get maid service 2x a week and they change our sheets, do our dishes, clean up, etc. the beach is private and we can just leave all our stuff there. i personally have no problems with the apartment, but if you cook a lot you may not like the kitchen. we get a ton of sunlight too, my bedroom has 2 huge windows, a double glass door that goes out back, and another screen door that opens to the main entrance. each apartment has a patio which is great to study on. negatives: the waves crashing on the shore can be loud depending how far you are from the beach, and there are lizards outside.
amor is basically a big apartment building with a parking lot in front, whereas barrymore is a bunch of individual houses (4 apartments each, 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs) that are interspersed between a ton of tropical plants, palm/banana trees, and a really upscale italian restaurant. it really feels like you're living in the caribbean.
barrymore is also right to rush nightclub/casino, 2 minutes from the Beach restaurant, and 3 minutes from sandals resort/dickenson bay.
also amor is group A while barrymore is group B, so its 500$ more a semester
oh and to answer your question, there are plenty of old people at amor. i know a few gentlemen between 30-40 that live there. i'm at barrymore with 7 of my friends and we're all 21-23.
