My opinion on the text i used... and so far so good as far as grades go...

Doctor, Patients, and Society
  • Mosby's Guide to Physical Examination 6th Ed. \ Seidel - Required - I do read mosbys it has a lot of charts that are essential to memorize for this class. Despite what anyone says about not needing it, you should get it. Its expensive at the book store - 65 US. so get a used one in the states. the class slides r key though. C on first DPS exam - due to not going over the class slides enough
Gross Anatomy \ Embryology

  • Essentials of Clinical Anatomy 3rd Ed.\Moore - I have Clinical anatomy by Moore NOT ESSENTIALS - it is almost twice the amount of reading, but has more pictures and more detail and i would suggest the BIG moore over the BABY moore. A on 1st anatomy exam
  • Atlas of Human Anatomy 4th Ed.\Netter - Required - Helps but expensive
  • Langman's Medical Embryology 10th Ed.\Sadler - Never opened this. waste of money
  • Clinical Applications of Human Anatomy: A Lab Guide\Nolan - never even seen a student who has it
  • Clinical Anatomy & Embryology: Study Guide\ Dr. Hannah - HA! Dr. H's way of making money(your teacher is the author)... he'll tell u that "u must buy it" to know wut to study - **, waste of 25 US
  • Imaging Atlas of Human Anatomy 3rd Ed.\Weir - INSTEAD i suggest imaging atlas by ROHEN it is great way to study for Wet Lab, it has great dissection pictures.
  • BRS gross anatomy - good way to review
  • BRS embryology - this book is how i studied for embryo in addition to Kaplan videos which you can get from any nice MED 2 student.
Histology

  • Histology, A Text and Atlas 5th Ed.\Ross - excellent book, explains everything. know this book in and out and you will get an A on histo exams
  • USMLE Road Map Histology\Sheedlo - never bought this book
  • Color Atlas of Histology 4th Ed.\Gartner - never bought this book
Got an A on 1st histo exam using just histology 5th ed. by Ross
Also, buy whatever u can used off amazon, as long as u can sacrifice the luggage weight. Books here are slightly more expensive compared to brand new online, however buying the books USED will save u about half the cost.

regarding books

I bought all my books through amazon.com ...all brand new under $170....I would suggest anyone to buy books from states in advance and then carry with you on your carryon luggage....since most of the flights do not weigh your carryon....you should easily carry those books...also in terms of what to buy....

Anatomy - Moore (smaller version), Netters book and Netters flash cards
BRS gross anatomy and BRS embryology.
DPS - Mosby's textbook
Histology - Histo textbook and guide to usmle....

DPS labs/Anatomy labs - 2 pairs of scrubs, a lab coat (do not matter short or long), stethescope, BP cuff and clipboard (is a must or else you wont be alow to take anatomy lab exams)

These are my preference and majority of the students do fine with this...please do not overload your luggage by buying recommended list of texts given to you...I mean if you want to...its upto you...these are just my thoughts.
