There are no problems with getting clinical rotations. The school guarantees clinical rotations in the US and has lived up to that guarantee. Students used to have more of a say in terms of where they do their rotations because the total number of students used to be way less than the number of clinical spots available. Now, you have to submit your top three choices and they try their best to accomodate you.
Having taken Step I puts you in a better position to get a clinical posting of your choice, now.

But what about all that talk about waitlist until january 7. I understand that its for the people that graduated already but what about the future students? Are we going to have a waitlist even 3 years from now or this isuue is faced because its a new school and that they will improve or rather wont have a problem of that sort by the time newbies like myself graduate? Thanks for the instant replies.

There is no official wait list till January 7th since we still have less students than clinical spots. It's just that not everyone wants to go everywhere - and thus there is a wait. Also, not having a Step I score in your hand will delay your clinical placement because very few hospitals accept students without passing scores. Further, some clinical sites require a commitment of an year or more and not everyone is willing or able to make that commitment. Finally, you also may be asked to wait for a particular rotation to start depending on when you apply. I called 2 months ago and they were willing to place me in a clinical site immediately since there were rotations beginning at that time. It looks like the next big start date for many of our rotations is January - at least in NY and Atlanta.
It will hopefully get better as they add more clinical sites and start dates for various rotations become more frequent.

Dear Jackbnimble,
Thanks for answering my question. So basically, if the people from the selection committe are not very aware of foreign medical schools, especially ones' that are relatively new, then as a graduate from that school, i'll have a disadvantage. and the only way to clear that is to perform exceptionally well in the exam. What do you think about AUA-KMC, i know it is a relatively new school, but do you think graduates from AUA, after completion of their clinical rotations can get selected into desired areas, for residency match? Also, how do you compare AUA with other carribean based universities, like ROSS, SGU etc? Thanks Ravi |
