510 points Good day to all my fellow med. students,
It's a breath of fresh air to see positive,constructive,open-minded,and neutral expressions amid the deluge of immature attacks towards A.A.I.M.S.
It would be interesting to note what the attacks on U.W.I.,and company were like in their formative years.
I have been carefully following the progress of A.A.I.M.S., and I am yet to find something so radically wrong that I would tell a prospective med.student.....''DON'T ATTEND!"
I have only one question thus far: Will clinical rotations be available in Jamaica for Jamaican students after they complete the first 2 years at A.A.I.M.S.?
i.e. If the Jamaican students want to practice in Jamaica.

AAIMS is listed in IMED.
This is AAIMS forum. If other schools want to advertise their school create a separate forum for your school. Thank you.

510 points All American Institute of Medicine is not accredited from NY, it is from Caribbean Medical Schools. American Institute of Medicine aims to train physicians with strong backgrounds in the basic medical science and a commitment to primary health care. This should enable our graduates to assume leadership positions in health care and government. For more information you may get reference from here www thedegreeexperts com
510 points Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. It's the US organization that deals with all students/doctors who didn't graduate from a US or Canadian school. You have to be IMED/Faimer/WHO listed in order to have ECFMG allow you to sit for the USMLE Step exams which are required for licensure in the US.
I am copy and pasting something I just wrote in the AUA forum to clear up the difference between accreditation and approval.
Just to clarify a few things since most people seem to not really get how it works. Accreditation is something a country does, not an individual state. Once a country accredits a program, it can apply for IMED/Faimer/WHO listing with that accreditation (charter). States don't grant permission to give a degree (thus don't accredit) anything but schools in their own state. LCME accredits specifically Doctor of Medicine degrees. (In the US schools have to be accredited to give out degrees by an agency approved by the DOE, only then can the LCME accredit the MD program and only the MD program). Since states aren't granting Caribbean schools the right to confer degrees, they are only allowing their graduates to practice and such "Approving" the schools. Hope this helps people clear up the confusion.
