james, i told DOC already, who i am i guess i tell you too here, sorry for not informing you bud.
i am a student here at the school, expreincing things, seeing the growth, i am not trying to post strongly, or even softly, i am just here to make sure my voice is heard, other students from the school don't know of this site or dont even come on. I want Democracy. as a student, even a AMSA member i want democracy, everyone voice should be heard. Maybe ill be even elected on the student counsel. i met the old moderator for VALUEMD, he doesn't come on anymore, but i can't just get enough of this bud. is like i am addicted to this site, and i want my school to grow and is important for me for me, because in the end we will all be part of something even bigger. Medical Assoc. and within them us students work as one as, doctors. if my logo is bad i will change it i am sorry . ill put something ELSE. Last edited by Dr.H; 10-17-2007 at 08:56 PM. |

Hey Dr.H, We appreciate your effort
Thanks a million times Dr.H for your time and effort. It is not easy to allocate such amount of time to this forum as a student. We have all been students at one point or another. We know time is precious.
As you have pointed out, not everyone knows about this sight. And for those of them that know, they may be too busy to allocate time for the forum...that is ok too. Their silence is golden and does not mean anything bad at all. They are just busy being students. In the past: You probably heard lawyers/police say: Innocence demands freedom of expression meaning 'if one has nothing to hide, why keep quiet'. We also know that such tactics are not intended to hear the innocent speak, as such. Rather they are intended to stair-up things for self incriminating evidence. Now we know: People have rights to remain silent or say things that may be used as evidence against them. The silence of many students have nothing to do with either of the above, retrospectively & currently. It is the mere fact that they are busy and some do not know. Period. I wish many students from ASUSM were writing on this forum. But this is just my wish. If they are too busy to do it, it is ok too. I understand. I would rather not write than impersonate myself as a student of a given school for damp-on innuendos or any virulent actions. Thanks again Dr.H Last edited by Magen-MD; 10-18-2007 at 08:33 PM. |

Regarding ASUSM's 5th Semester
The 5th semester, like many other institutions, is done on the island. Strictly speaking, if I were part of the administration/management, I would have abolished it and make it part of the clinical sciences. Unfortunately, I have no authority nor influence in any of the schools in the caribbean or elsewhere.
The 5th semester is well and better covered during the clinical sciences. So really, it is NOT a big deal (but this is my opinion). It is fear of the unknown that plagues many medical students in all medical schools. Students tend to have a phobia to assume clinical responsibilities, where they have to integrate theory into clinical practice. They imagine that the 5th semester would have made all the difference in the way they approach clinical cases. No, no, no! This comes with practice, so don't you worry, be happy you made it into made school this far, be positive. Things will be fine. Best of luck, |

You and I both Dr H. Maden-MD seems to go on many tireless rants that allows her to use words that have her dancing in circles, and avoiding the issues at hand. Just a question Magic-MD. Has anyone at AllSaints completed the 5th semester in Roseau? B/c if not, how can you rate the program if nobody has been through it.

Students have gone through MD5 on Dominica
Some have done their MD5 in Dominica, but I will say that at that time (and from speaking to them) - it definitely wasn't great. Now with that being said - I have seen growth and Dr. L (one of the teachers) has put together a great review program. Also, we now have an opportunity to get experience at a small private hospital here so that will help. Most of the MD5's this semester are really enjoying it the rest just want to get off the island because they see the end in sight.
Personally, I agree with one of the previous posters that indicated MD5 would be better suited in the US combined with clinical - but you can't change things over night - maybe one day - probably not till after I am long gone. |
