I don't know that I'd pray for him to leave. He may have been incompetent as an IT guy, but he was at least a decent person. Or maybe I'm just getting used to the island incompetence? In any case, it would seem that he's been replaced by an American IT person with actual IT experience.
I think that what they really need to do is bring in an IT consulting firm from the US, show them what they've currently got set up, and let the IT firm tell them what they need to do to make things right. But, at least the new person will hopefully be a good start.
You'll know that they've actually got something good going on when the entire school is on one network, and not a different network in every room. I've never seen a school or commercial network where you didn't seamlessly go from one router to the next. They've set the school up like a big house. Already though, the internet and intranet seem a little more snappy.
