Since there is a vet school here, there are a lot of students that bring down pets. You would be able to live off campus if you have a pet, its not a problem. Just let your admission counselor know that you would like the most up to date off-campus housing list that includes pet-friendly places.

In terms of whether its a good idea to live off campus 1st term - it depends. For those with families, sig others, pets, it is usually better for us. If you want to meet a lot more people and be more "connected" to what is going on, then living off-campus will not be a good fit for you, unless you can get roommates, of course. There are also bus hassles (if you don't end up close to campus) which are pretty much on time, but waiting on a bus stop takes time away from other, more important things.

In terms of bringing a pet down, the SGU.edu website has info on travel restrictions, quarantine, shots, etc.
