Ob/peds
I did OB and Peds both early in 2007 so I dont know if things have changed since then. I have to say they were both EXCELLENT rotations. First off, you are the only Ross student along with 5 or 6 Albert Einstein students. This small number allows for tons of hands-on and learning opportunities. Both have residency programs and the residents love to teach. There are lectures every day. You are treated like part of the team and given responsibilities as such. You have to spend a portion of the peds rotation in the ED. You have 100% autonomy while there and actually do the full write-up, physical, and plan. The attending then reviews your plan, discusses the case with you, and the patient is treated according to your plan.
Both rotations require full days (till 6pm most days) with a few short calls till 9pm in both and 1 or 2 overnight calls in OB. The hospital provides you with free meal tickets for lunch and breakfast. No parking for students but there is a parking lot a few blocks away that charges $8 per day or $128 for the month but you can only buy the pass on the 1st of the month. The area is pretty bad at night- significantly worse than the area surrounding wyckoff. I have to say that even as a male i had to watch over my shoulder when i had late call and needed to get to my car. The actual hospital is pretty nice and of small to medium size (maybe a little bit bigger than Wyckoff). Overall, I would strongly recommend this rotation to anyone. Very tough to actually get a spot in those two rotations so start trying now. Any more questions just PM me
