What I did is (and it worked quite nicely for me) sign up for the course, got my books right away and I studied from the books for about 2 months, then I started the lectures. After they were over, I spend another 2 weeks going through everything once more, which if you got time, you can easily extend that for another 2 weeks.

I think that was a very good approach. After the lecture, I spent about 10 days reviewing everything, then I took NBME 1 and got a 700 (256). Took the real deal yesterday, so I'll just sit tight and wait for my result.
