impossible to match in Canada?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of something that I don't..I've been reseraching the whole process involved with obtaining a residency in Canada, and it seems like that even if you are a 99% student and get perfect on your boards you probably will not match in Canada if entering the US match.

As I understand it, Canada and the US have a reciprocal agreement in that, if a person matches in one country, they are automatically taken out of the match of the other country. I think the US match happens 2 days prior to the Canadian match (correct me if i'm wrong)...so the only way I see someone is able to match in Canada is if they do NOT enter the US match and kind of cross their fingers hoping to match in Canada; or if they enter both matches and fail to match in the US, and match in Canada (which seems kinda unlikely, since it sounds like the US is easier on IMGs than Canada).

So how are people matching in Canada? I've seen 1 or 2 on the MUA Nevis residency page of Canadian matches; do these people have serious 'connections' in which residency directors of Canada tell them 'don't enter the US match, we'll have something for you..wink wink'

Am I missing something? I'm Canadian if you can't tell lol..and just I hear of people saying they want to come back to Canada all the time..going to the caribbean don't you have to kind of accept the fact that in most likelihood you will have to move to the US? (as I've accepted pretty much)

Just this has been bugging me for a while, as I hear a lot of Caribbean med students hoping to come back to Canada. Thought this would be a good thread for us Canadians..any comments welcome!
