New Application/Requirements For Admission...

What does everyone think of the new application...?

A few things disturbed me with regard to the new application for admission. On page 10 they ask a series of questions about any academic, or statutory violations as well as any psychiatric disorders/learning disabilities.

However, at the end of the application they state:

"I understand that St. Christopher's College of Medicine reserves the right to accept or deny any applicant. St. Christopher's College of Medicine grants admission to students regardless of color, race, nationality, religion, gender, disability, or marital status."

Does this mean that they can/will deny acceptance to the College based on any academic, or statutory violations as well as any psychiatric disorders/learning disabilities?

Isn't this in direct violation of the American's with Disabilities Act (in reference to the psychiatric disorders/learning disabilities)?

If the school doesn't follow the American's with Disabilities Act, doesn't that exclude them from ever being eligible for Dept. of Edu. recognition and Stafford loans?

I wonder why they don't ask questions about illicit drug use or substance abuse problems? I would think that a student suffering from depression but properly medicated would be a lot less of a problem than someone who habitually abuses illicit drugs or has a serious substance abuse problem...

I know a number of current students who have somewhat serious substance abuse problems as well as abuse illicit substances, even during the 4th and 5th semesters where they have patient contact. If a few students got kicked out of the country for illicit drug use, wouldn't that make the British government more likely to view our institution in a very negative light? Or think twice about letting new St. Chris students into the country?

I think the administration really needs to scrutinize and reevaluate their current application/admissions policies.

One positive change is that they ask for "Official transcripts. These should be sent directly from each institution attended." instead of "Provide Undergraduate and/or Graduate transcripts"

A second positive change is that they ask people to detail their pre-medical requirements so they can assure that people are properly prepared for the rigors of medical school.

A third positive change is that they ask transfer students to detail information from their previous institutions to ensure a similar quality of education from their previous institution.

I hope they will continue to work on the application/admissions requirements to ensure the quality of applicants without being inappropriate or damaging to current St. Chris students
