Is one side of the island safer than the other? I am starting in the FALL, and I was a bit concerned and confused about the crime on St. Marteen. Some posts mention the island as being the MOST Americanized and some say its a third world country with rampant crime. Which one is it?

I know the school is on the Dutch side, so do most students find a apartment on the Dutch side?
