Insite on step 1 pass rate and residency placement

I spoke with a couple of people in the MEAS office today and was told some information that i'm having a hard time coming to grips with.

I first asked about AUC's pass rate for step 1s and interestingly enough i was told the FIRST attempt pass rate for AUC students who took the test last year was 86%...this blew me away, so to make sure that I didn't hear wrong i asked if they were sure, and they repeated that was the number they were giving out about the first time students took the test. Does that seem a little inflated to any of you??? If that were true, then AUC has a higher pass rate than the avg pass rate for US medical schools…

The second question i asked them had to do with residencies that AUC students were getting into...and something interesting came up. I was told that MANY programs preferred AUC students over US students...now i can understand if they were choosing b/t two students and the AUC student had better board scores, gpa, etc, but they were trying to tell me that even with comparable credentials, AUC students were getting more competitive residency placements and were more preferred over US student...how that sound to you all?

Someone please tell me if this is all marketing garbage b/c i'm having a tough time believing what the people in that office are saying.
