Ross Spouses Organization
WELCOME TO DOMINICA!!!!
My name is Nanouka Woods, and my husband is entering 3rd semester - we just checked his grades and he got STRAIGHT A'S -- I am sooo proud!!
I have just been elected the President of the Spouses Organization, and I wanted to post some information here because I used this site to get myself ready when I made the decision to move with my husband to Dominica.
The decision to move to Dominica with your significant other is a very personal one. You should never feel like you need to explain or defend your decision to anyone. Also, the decision is neither right nor wrong -- you must do what is best for your situation at the time and plug on forward. You should not regret any decision you make, rather learn from it and adjust accordingly. There are many spouses who stay home and many that come along. There are also many who try it out and then decide they are better off in the states.
Overall, I am here to let you know, that if you have any questions about Dominica or the life of a spouse/significant other in Dominca, I can give you my opinion and tell you of my experiences. I promise to be honest and helpful and avoid exaggeration. Keep in mind, I can only offer my opinion and information on my observations. Like every post on this site, you should take it with a grain of salt, and make the best decision from the information you have gathered.
Please be aware that although our club is called the Spouses Organization, membership is offered to anyone interested in joining. We have members who are the boyfriend or girlfriend of a student, so our club name should really be the Ross Support Organization (if I could rename it). We have both male and female participation and enjoy a variety of activites involving couples, children, individual members and general students.
The club is very new and is growing with the help and ideas of many of our creative and outgoing members. We want the club to be a great resource for our members and their other half. We will be active in campuswide activites and hold fundraisers to contribute to the growth of our organization.
Please also note that as a member, you are NOT REQUIRED to participate in any event- your presence makes the event more fun for everyone, but you will never be judged or ridiculed for choosing to do something different.
Moving to Dominica is a culture shock to all of us, we need each other and support each other and make very good friends as a result. We plan to explore the island and keep ourselves busy so that we can contribute to the positive mental atmosphere that our student's need to excel in this accelerated Medical Program.
We are hosting a Welcome Breakfast, Friday, January 28th - for all spouses and their significant others and children. If you are moving to Dominica or have a loved one moving to Dominica, you are welcome to PM me, or post any concerns on the board.
If you know anyone with a significant other moving to Dominica, please encourage them to contact me. We can help make your transition to this Nature Island much easier.
Good luck and I hope to hear from you!!!
Happy New Year!
Nanouka Woods
Ross Spouses Organization President
