I currently know of 2 different students who were shorted on their refund checks (and not for small amounts, either). The loans were in the proper amount, just that AUC "forgot" to give them all their money back after tuition was taken out. *oops!*
Also, my wife STILL does not have her financial aid check. We applied months ago, were pre-approved by Sallie Mae, AND I even e-mailed the Financial Aid office several weeks prior to the end of last semester, inquiring about her financial aid status, the date of her check release, etc. I was told everything was fine and in order, and her check would be released on the first day of classes. Well... this was true, sort of. You see, her STAFFORD loans were approved and released. But of course, you don't GET any of that money, since the Staffords aren't even enough to cover tuition. Her Sallie Mae private loans, unfortunately, were not filed properly. We gave them all the required information, but somehow, some of it got lost between SXM, Miami, and Sallie Mae. Wonder how that could have happened? *shocked*
So, now, after dealing directly with Sallie Mae to replace the missing documents (which we provided to AUC and they lost, then told us to deal directly with Sallie Mae to replace them), AUC still insists they don't have my wife's check and they don't know how long it will be before they get it. So much for checking to make sure everything is complete, eh? I did so and was told everything was fine and dandy. I guess it really wasn't. *shocked again*
So anyways. Just keep an eye on things and keep checking back with them. Good luck to all you newbies down there, your struggle is just beginning. Mine's half over. And I ain't talkin' about the classes!
